Ferrostatin 1 is a ferroptosis inhibitor. It inhibits cell death induced by the ferroptosis inducers erastin (Cat No. PC-13662; EC50 = 60 nM) and RSL3, but not by hydrogen peroxide, rotenone, or staurosporine, in HT-1080 cells when used at a concentration of 0.5 μM. Ferrostatin-1 (0.5 μM) inhibits erastin-induced production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and lipid peroxidation in HT-1080 cells. It increases cell survival in cell-based models of Huntington's disease, periventricular leukomalacia, and kidney proximal tubule damage in a concentration-dependent manner.Ferrostatin-1 (2 μM) inhibits cell death induced by L-glutamate in a rat organotypic hippocampal slice culture (OHSC) model.It also inhibits autooxidation of lipids by trapping peroxyl radicals. |
