Gly-Phe-β-naphthylamide is a substrate of cathepsin C that accumulates within the lysosome. Hydrolysis by cathepsin C degrades Gly-Phe-β-naphthylamide into fragments that do not easily diffuse through the lysosomal membrane, leading to a loss of lysosome membrane integrity.
