Phloridzin
It is a dihydrochalcone occurring in all parts of the apple tree except the mature fruit. Once thought to occur in pear, plum, cherry trees and other Rosaceae. Inhibitor of Na+-glucose cotransporters (SGLT). inhibits both SGLT1 and SGLT2 with low therapeutic selectivity. Cytotoxic to Breast Cancer cells with potent antioxidant and antibacterial activity. Produces renal glycosuria and blocks intestinal glucose absorption. Normalizes insulin sensitivity in diabetic rats.

Phlorizin is a non-selective SGLT inhibitor with Kis of 300 and 39 nM for hSGLT1 and hSGLT2, respectively. Phlorizin is also a Na+/K+-ATPase inhibitor. Phlorizin may be a novel therapeutic approach for the treatment of diabetic nephrolog, it protects mice from diabetic nephrology. Phlorizin prevents ventricular tachyarrhythmia through the improvement of impulse conduction slowing during ischemia. |
